Why is new vinyl now so expensive regardless of the undoubted resurgence of vinyl in the past 5 or so years it s still very much a niche market.

Perhaps the sound is irrelevant. Niche markets attract higher prices due to their very nature. For one it is because americans have gotten used to cheap music. So every 4th or 5th record i buy is poorly pressed or cut too hot.

Perhaps they actually believe they sound better. Listening to cd s again and its pleasurable unlike being pissed at records all the time. It might not seem like much but in the 30 s a dollar was a lot of money. Before cd s used vinyl was literally the only way to hear some stuff so it went for a premium.

So my vinyl purchasing has gone down from 10 month to almost zero month over the last 2 years due to the drastic price increases.
